Jane Gray EyeCare

Urgent EyeCare

When something happens with your health it can be stressful, particularly when it concerns your eyes. We understand the worry you may have following eye or vision issues and we are here to help.

There are a number of issues which involve the eyes that can be investigated by an optometrist in practice, including:

  • Red eye
  • Pain or discomfort in or around the eye
  • Minor injury to the eye
  • Something in the eye
  • Sudden changes in vision including flashes or floaters
  • Sudden loss of vision
  • Recent onset double vision
  • Emergency contact lens removal
  • Watery eye
  • Ingrowing eyelashes
  • Lumps or bumps on the lids or lashes

These symptoms do not require a referral from your GP but you must be 18 or over and registered with a Hull or East Riding of Yorkshire GP.

Due to COVID-19, a telephone assessment service has been introduced to reduce the requirement for face to face appointments.

If you have any of the ocular symptoms listed, please call the

Telephone Assessment Service on 0800 368 5152

They will arrange a telephone triage consultation with a qualified optometrist who will offer advice and make a decision as to whether your symptoms require further investigation and examination.

This service does not cover emergency eyecare such as:

  • Strong chemicals in eyes
  • Penetrating or blunt force injury to the eye
  • Blood or pus from the eye
  • Severe sensitivity to light (photophobia)

For these you should immediately visit your nearest A&E.
